
M. Scott Rizzo
Mr. Rizzo is a senior executive with a diverse background gained through a
variety of career positions. He is well versed in crafting growth strategies
based on the prediction of industry and global economic trends. He drives the
implementation of these strategies with a passion for team building, constant
communication and sound research. The strategies he has implemented have
generated millions of dollars in profits for his Firm(s) and his clients.
In his most recent role, as the Vice President and Global Head of Supply Chain
Operations for Barrier Therapeutics, he created and developed the global risk
mitigation strategy and logistical optimization platform, both of which are
considered best in class in the pharmaceutical industry amongst his peers.
Under his guidance the supply chain and trade group at Barrier performed
multiple global product launches and life-cycle line extensions, all while
mitigating the risk and cost of work in process and finished goods. Mr. Rizzo
led cross-functional teams to improve speed to market and balance global
inventory models all under a strict GMP environment. Prior to Mr. Rizzo joining
Barrier, it had yet to receive FDA approval for any product. In his 4.5 years
at Barrier, Mr. Rizzo launched multiple products in the EU and US, including a
record 12 week life-cycle line extension. He has developed excellent
relationships with top executives at numerous contract manufacturing companies,
as well as excellent relationships throughout the US pharmaceutical
distribution channels. He is a member of the senior leadership team reporting
directly to the CEO.
Prior to joining Barrier Therapeutics, Mr. Rizzo was Director of North American
Supply Chain for Hoffmann-La Roche. In five years he led a distribution
consolidation process for Roche which reduced overhead and optimized existing
operations. The cornerstone of his effort was a restructuring of the testing
capacity for all US inbound product in order to satisfy future EU requirements
without incurring cost.
For over a year, Mr. Rizzo was a consultant for Coopers & Lybrand and
PriceWaterhouseCoopers, LLP in which he led multiple successful engagements at
top tier pharmaceutical companies and directed value chain initiatives which
redefined current business practice and led to savings in excess of $500mm.
Before pursuing a graduate education, Mr. Rizzo gained valuable experience in
the automotive industry. In this setting he first practiced operational
efficiency and accrued true cross-functional leadership skills through union
collaboration. In addition, he was a member of the first US team to fully
integrate Mazda Motors practices.
From a diverse automotive and pharmaceutical career, Mr. Rizzo developed
management expertise through progressively challenging positions in global
strategy, supply chain, manufacturing/operations, logistics and procurement.
Mr. Rizzo is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University where he received both
his Masters in Business Administration and his Masters of Manufacturing
Management. He is a member of the Rutgers University Graduate Center for Supply
Chain Studies and is on the Alumni Advisory Board for Pennsylvania State
University.
